Choosing a home for Pete
Phil and I looked at several places to move Pete to when it became necessary to leave the Devonshire Ward at Putney. At first none of them were quite right. We were looking for a place that would have the nursing care that would be able to cope with Pete’s needs and have the facilities and people who could provide Pete with continuing care such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy and so on. We also wanted to find a place where the physiotherapists were really keen to work with Peter to help him move forwards and not just maintain his current status.
It was very important to us that Pete had his own room that was nice, happy & cheerful with the building situated in pleasant grounds. All these requirements were hard to find but to make matters more difficult this place had to be within easy reach of our home and work and also where friends and family could visit too.
When we went to the home the staff were so keen to help Pete and so positive and kind. It had as near as was possible to everything we were looking for. The staff are always helpful and kind and gentle with Peter.
